Dr. Gregg Dean’s current research is focused on mucosal immunology and vaccine development with an emphasis on human rotavirus, West Nile virus, avain influenza and feline coronavirus. Current major projects include: 1. Developing an orally delivered mucosal vaccine against human rotavirus using the commensal organism, Lactobacillus acidophilus, as a vaccine platform, 2. Investigation of the interaction between intestinal microbiome, host mucosal immune responses and vaccines, and 3. Determining the immune correlates of protection and disease against feline infectious peritonitis (FIP).  His research group is seeking to commercialize assays for the diagnosis and characterization of feline coronavirus and FIP.
