My research is directed at better understanding factors that regulate synthesis and secretion of hormones that control reproduction, particularly the gonadotropins follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). On of our goals is to develop a treatment that can permanently eliminate function of gonadotrophs without affecting other cells in the anterior pituitary gland. Such a treatment would have a variety of uses ranging from non-lethal control of wild animal populations to treatment of hormone-dependent cancers in humans.
