Jim Poss is the Director of Venture Creation at CSU Strata, where he oversees the Lab to Life Venture Studio program, leading entrepreneurial initiatives to launch and incubate startup companies based on technologies developed at Colorado State University.
Jim is an experienced startup founder and social entrepreneur with a focus on clean technology. He invented the BigBelly solar-powered trash compactor, improving collection efficiency and resulting in four patents and over $200 million in sales worldwide. Jim also founded Modifi, which upcycles used smartphones into new software products. He is a prestigious World Economic Forum “Technology Pioneer,” and was named one of Business Week Magazine’s Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs.
Jim graduated from Duke University, where he studied environmental science and policy, and geology. He earned his MBA from Babson College, where he later taught entrepreneurship in the MBA, undergraduate, and executive education programs.
